Logitech's new Logi ZeroTouch is a dashboard mount that allows Android phone owners to add smart components to their cars, like the ability to issue commands, listen to text messages, respond to those messages, and operate certain apps.

The ZeroTouch works alongside a free companion app that automatically opens after a smartphone is placed in the mount, providing access to everything from voice calls and Spotify tracks to directions from Google Maps.

The ZeroTouch, which can be attached to a car's vent or dashboard, is geared to those drivers who might not have a car with a fancy touch screen that supports things like Apple CarPlay or Android Auto.

"New car owners can experience the luxury of a connected car, but there are still tens of millions of older cars on the road," Bracken Darrell, Logitech president and chief executive officer, said in a statement. "As we look for ways to design products that are thoughtful solutions to human needs, we realized there was an opportunity to turn any car into a connected car. The result is the Logi ZeroTouch. The smart mount and app work together to give you the best features of a connected car, while keeping your eyes on the road. We believe ZeroTouch will play a crucial role in turning the look down and text, into the look up and talk."

The US government and tech companies have been working hard to address a distracted-driving problem that contributes to accidents and vehicle-related deaths. Some might argue that anything that takes your eyes off the road, from changing the radio station to fiddling with the A/C, is a distraction, but a dashboard-mounted and voice-activated solution is likely better than looking down at a phone in your lap or hand.

For now, the Logi ZeroTouch is Android-only. According to Logitech, it hopes "to expand to additional platforms in the future."

Pre-order the ZeroTouch Dashboard in black for $70 or ZeroTouch Air Vent in red, white, or black for $60 on Amazon or Logitech.com. (Amazon currently lists the Vent's price at $40, which Logitech says is an error that will be fixed soon.)
